Friesland School is once again able to celebrate a wonderful set of post 16 results, both in our A-Level and Vocational qualifications. Clearly this year has been incredibly challenging and our students deserve a great deal of praise for the way they have worked across the last two years and how they have responded since lockdown began in March. Whilst we are aware they wanted to ‘prove’ themselves in examinations, everyone should be no less proud of their achievements as the grades reflect years of dedication and considerable talent.
Head of 6th form Mat Puddy said: ‘Many of our students are looking forward to exciting futures, even during these demanding times, from employment and training with highly regarded companies to offers of places at a range of renowned universities, including students at Cambridge and a host of students at Russell Group and other prestigious establishments. Sixth Form staff are keen to acknowledge the end of this particular era with the class of 2020 once social distancing allows large groups to meet.’
2020 marks the first year of a specific cohort of students who study with us in conjunction with Derby County Community Trust. Like all of our students, they have performed extremely well.
Headteacher Peter Monk commented: ‘These grades have been very hard earned and are the outcome of seven years of hard work. It has been a hugely frustrating experience for this cohort of students who have been deprived of both the opportunity to sit their final examinations and to be able to leave school in a normal way. It is really important that we take time to celebrate their achievements today as they have worked every bit as hard as previous cohorts. They are a special cohort for me as they are my last Year 13 cohort as Headteacher of Friesland and I wish them all every success for the future’.
