Recently, Friesland held its first ever DEAR day (drop everything and read) with students, across Key Stage Three, having the opportunity to read at the start of every lesson. Students and staff, from across the whole school, were able to bring in a book and read for pleasure throughout the day.
In some lessons students had visitors from members of staff, from other areas of the school, who took the opportunity to nip into lessons to take part in the reading with them. Many students and staff commented on the calm atmosphere in lessons and all over the school with students being really engaged in their reading.
During the day, students had the opportunity to record their reading on their reading records and track their reading as part of the rewards scheme for the celebration evening in June 2019.
The whole school is looking forward to the next DEAR day on Friday 14th December.
