As we reach a well-earned break for half term we can reflect upon a happy and hectic time in the sixth form. Year 12 have settled well into the more mature environment and year 13 have wasted no time in both returning to their studies and preparing for their futures beyond Friesland !
Applications to Cambridge University and Medical School were sent well before the October 15 th deadline and many of our students are close to finishing their higher education applications, in anticipation of receiving many attractive offers! Students researching alternatives to university have used their time productively, whilst it hasn’t all been about work!
Typically, many of our students are involved in the upper school show, ‘Chicago’ and Mrs Carr our Head of year 13 is playing in a pivotal role in this musical. Mrs Carr, alongside Mrs Tideswell and Mrs Pitman ably assisted the sixth form committee in their gargantuan fund raising bake sale in aid of Macmillan, with our new chairs of committee, George Richards and Charlie Pierson taking on the first of many worthwhile duties this year. Congratulations to them both and to Ewan McNeil, Harri Horsfall, Lauren Briddon and Matthew Osbiston for providing such an excellent hustings!
Our Duke of Edinburgh group successfully completed their expedition, although reports suggest that it may have taken a little longer than anticipated! Thanks very much to all of our staff involved in making this such a success.
At the time of writing we are hoping that the sixth form football squad will be making good progress in the county and national cup competitions whilst we are aware that we have a number of elite athletes in our sixth form this year!
Next half term promises to be equally busy and productive, including the American Exchange, Geography field trip, our Christmas Party for infants school children and ‘Chicago’.
By Christmas, higher education applications should be finished, the extended project well underway and the prospect of those Christmas jumpers on parade during our end of term gathering should keep everyone going!
