On Thursday 11th February, our GCSE and A Level dance students went to Déda in Derby to see the all-male dance company, 2Faced Dance who are touring the UK with their critically acclaimed production Dreaming in Code. This production is on its third tour and was one of the highlights at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2015.
The show’s synopsis described the production as ‘exhilarating, heart-breaking, devastating and joyful, featuring a breath-taking collision of kinetically charged dance and theatre’ – and it certainly wasn’t wrong! Students were blown away with the amazing aerial moves and lifts in the contact work, and the pure energy and physicality of the piece. Our students left the production feeling inspired and enlightened to methods of dance they may not have previously considered.
After half term, Jason from 2Faced Dance came to Friesland to run workshops for both our current GCSE and A Level dancers and year 9 students hoping to study dance at GCSE next year. Students worked on various dance techniques before moving on to learn and perform some sections of the Dreaming in Code production they had been to see before half term. It was very hard work, but a brilliant and extremely rewarding day!
