On Tuesday 2nd February, children’s author Tom Palmer visited Friesland School to speak to Year 7 students. The talk, organised by the Erewash School Sport Partnership, was about sport, the importance of reading and Tom’s work as an author. Tom, famous for his ‘Football Academy’ and ‘Rugby Academy’ books, engaged the enthusiastic students with a sport and reading quiz, as well as a mini-Rugby kicking competition.
This was the second consecutive year in which Tom has visited Friesland. Over the coming weeks, the students will be writing stories for the national ‘500 words’ competition and will be using some of Tom’s suggestions about how to come up with narrative ideas.
It was a thoroughly informative and entertaining session. Hopefully Tom will be back for a third visit in 2017!
