On the evening of 14th January, our Y12 Drama & Theatre Studies students had their mock performance of the plays Metamorphosis by Stephen Berkhoff, and August: Osage County by Tracy Letts. This is their first opportunity to put on a 20-25 minute scripted performance, to A Level standard, in preparation for their examination by an external moderator later this year. Our A Level students perform their mock performances to a paying audience of friends, family and teachers.
One of our students, Tiegan, has written a few thoughts on the evening:
As part of my A-level studies I was to participate in the play August: Osage County, portraying the way that I believed my character Ivy should be played. The play itself follows a number of complicated relationships all within one family – after the death of the family’s patriarch, the family gather at the mother’s house in the wake of the tragedy. I was thrilled to finally put all of my hard work building up the to the performance into practice, and on top of that, the fact I could perform it in front of my family and friends – rather than it being limited to those in the school (like at the GCSE performance) – making it even more exciting for me. I’m sure that I am not the only one astounded by the sheer number of people that turned up to show their support to all of us students; there were around 60 people in total that came to watch and to make things even better, it felt as though they participated greatly on the night. I couldn’t be more thankful for how they celebrated all of our hard work with us.
