Cast Workshop, The Curve Theatre, Leicester
Last Friday the cast of Macbeth went to The Curve Theatre in Leicester to view their performance venue for their Shakespeare School’s Festival performance of Macbeth.
The 20 performers, 1 lighting designer and 1 sound technician had a tour of the venue followed by a cast workshop run by the in house directors at The Curve Theatre. They shared their workshop with a group of student performers from Rawlins Academy in Loughborough, a school who they will be performing with on the night.
A 5 minute section of the play in rehearsal form was shown to each school and feedback was greatly received from each school in turn. Rawlins, who are performing, ‘A Midsummer’s Night Dream’ obviously had a very different tone to Friesland’s, ‘Macbeth’ that is set in hell and performed as a flashback to show how Macbeth ended up there. Both performances were very physical and the students from both schools were full of positive feedback after each performance.
By the end of the workshop a lot of new friendships had been formed and excitement about seeing the finished product was evident.
The Friesland cast now go back to the rehearsal room to finish blocking the piece and getting it to performance quality for Thursday 20th November.
