The GCSE PE and BTEC level 2 Sport students at Friesland School were given the opportunity to take a course in rock climbing and abseiling throughout their practical lessons. By participating in this course, students are learning the basic skills and techniques needed in order to climb effectively and safely. Six lessons have been set aside which allows individuals to gain knowledge and experience in safely setting the equipment up such as harnesses, how to climb with the correct technique and how to belay safely. This will now lead on to climbing different routes using holds of increasing difficulty so that students can challenge themselves. Those that perform particularly well will have the option of using this experience to form part of their GCSE Practical scores.
